Is Maca the sexiest of all the Superfoods?

26.11.2015

Until a few years ago Maca, like many of the Superfoods, was relatively unknown. I certainly hadn’t heard of it or used it but it was only when I was trying to get pregnant that I discovered it and found it very useful.

Maca is a part of the broccoli, radish, and watercress family and looks like a very robust radish, it has an earthy taste with a nutty flavour and can be added to almost any food. It is native to the Andes Mountains, and is the superfood used by one of the oldest, and once most advanced civilizations on earth – the Incas and Peruvians. Over the centuries maca has been called “magic the food of the gods” and used to boost fertility, increase energy, immunity and libido.

Very soon the health food world started hearing about it and the news spread. It became known as the ‘Sexy Superfood’ and labelled as ‘Natural Viagra’ because of its ability to increase libido, stamina, and to stimulate the endocrine system...and as you can imagine sales went through the roof! Maca became so popular in China last year a group of wealthy businessmen went to Peru and bought entire farms of it leading to a worldwide shortage of this wonderful Superfood.

My husband and I were keen to have children and had been trying for 7 years when Gee Palmer our resident Nutritionist suggested I try adding Maca to my diet to help get pregnant. I used it everyday adding it to my morning smoothie, and as well as experiencing a boost in energy we feel it did in fact help us have our first child Mika Louis.

Now one of the top sellers here at Nature Home Asia so many people are benefiting from its natural energy boost, increasing their libido, helping to balance hormones, and giving them extra stamina for their workout. Adding just one teaspoon to your morning smoothie you will notice the difference in your energy levels and if you are trying to get pregnant I highly recommend it!

It’s also high in B Vitamins, Vitamin C, Zinc, helps relieve migraine headaches and reduces stress. So try adding Maca to your diet and hopefully there will be no need to say “sorry I’ve got a headache’ and your energy and health will be better too!

Wishing you health and happiness,

Alison Freeden.
